I finished my red scarf for the Red Scarf Project. I used two 50gr balls of merino DK that I found here at my German yarn shop. That’s sounds easy enough but colors over here are not the same as they are in the States. I was a little worried I wouldn’t be able to find a true red, but I did. Most are really orange, yellows are mustardy and greens are limey. It looks a little deeper thank it actually is. Hard to fix the contrast of the snow. I cast on 40 stitches and used the subtle mesh from Barbara Walker Charted Knitting Designs ; I really like the way it turned out.
Dear Secret Pal,
You’ll find my SP4 Questionnaire answers on my About page. This is gonna be fun. I’ve been collecting stuff for weeks to send to my Secret Pal! Weeeee….
I just received my Knit Picks catalog on Friday. I saved it for bedtime reading. Got all cozy that night and was flipping through it when…. Ha….. Check this out. It’s the Midwest Moonlight scarf from Scarf Style by Pam Allen. Throw some garter stitch into my scarf and it’s the same thing!
I need some help. I want a drumcarder. It’s one of my Christmas gifts but I’m really on the fence. I was convinced that I wanted the Deb by Patrick Greene, but I’m torn between it, the Fricke Finest (though it’s a little steeper than I wanted to go for a first carder) and the Louet. I’ve even thought about the Fricke Petite since I probably won’t be a carding maniac after the first month or so. I work with medium to medium-fine wools like Romney, Falkland and blends. Let me hear from you!
Beautiful scarf, Jean! Lovely knitting, as usual and a good cause. I love that stitch pattern. Barbara Walker’s books are my faves in knitting books. I read ’em like a good trashy novel at the beach. ;-}
Let me guess, Universal? Your scarf turned out beautiful! I really need to figure out what pattern I’m going to use.
You may want to consider the Fricke Petite carder. It is only 2 inches smaller in width than the finest and has the same cloth. I used to have one and it was a great little carder…..because I do so much carding with the rabbits, I ended up trading that in towards a 16inch electric fricke.
Lovely scarf 🙂
The red scarf is goregous. I have to get started on mine…no clue about drum carders. I am clueless to the whole spinning thing.
I am in love with your scarf and want to steal it. 🙂 And now apparently I need to cave and buy Scarf Style. I’m all covetous and stuff today…
watch out when purchasing from knitpicks. A friend ordered from them… their own brand of yarn. The website said 110yards… and when it came the skeins were 96 yards. So she was short a couple of balls for her project. When she called them, they basically told her she had to buy what she was lacking.
I knew you’d finish yours before me! It’s a lovely pattern. Someone will scoop that up in no time.
Beautiful scarf! I love it!
I found your questionnaire…. I’m having fun starting to shop for you!
Love your scarf! I’ve got 2 50gr balls of dk that I’m going to use to start my red scarf tonight. I’m also going to steal your idea and use a pattern from the Barbara Walker book. Thanks. 🙂
Jean, I’m not your secret pal but I enjoyed reading the list. Your scarf is so pretty. I have some red wool and plan to make one soon.

That scarf takes my breath away. Utter gorgeousness.
The red scarf is gorgerous ! I love it !
Love the scarves and the sweater. I can see why you married him so quick 😉 Don’t let the good ones get away.
I have to say I love my Finest. I couldn’t be happier. I know the price was a bit steep, but I deserved the “finest” – and I like to think I got it. (lol). I really think they are all nice. I just got the chance to use one and was sold at that point. Got the brush and everything to go with it.
Jean the scarf came out great!!! And the color is just divine! A true treasure. Good luck on figuring out which drumcarder to buy. I have to admit I just don’t like using it unless I’m felting. I know heretical. But please forgive me 🙂
Heather
Your red scarf is gorgeous, I’ve bought yarn but haven’t started it yet, someone is nagging about an unfinished jumper!!
What a great pattern for a scarf. I bet that would look great in Rowan wool cotton, too. (I just blocked my wool cotton scarf, can you tell?)
Gorgeous scarf! Someone is going to be very happy with their red scarf. I cast mine on last night, so you’re motivating me to get knitting on it!
RE: drumcarders. I have the Louet because I asked for a dc for Christmas one year (’91?)and dh went to the local weaving shop and bought the only one in stock. I don’t recommend it because the teeth gnash together. Definitely not a good thing for fine wools. If I had it to do over again, either a Patrick Green or a Fricke would be my choice. And if I hit the jackpot and could justify a second dc, it would be the PG supercard.
