Yarn Shortage

Didn’t mean to scare anyone with that title today.  That’s probably a huge faux paux in the knitting world, but what’s the deal?!  Two projects in a row now where I ended up coming very close to running out of yarn.  Actually, I did run out of the gray, but got lucky enough to find someone who had extra.  Here’s what I had left in the black

From now on I’m ordering two extra balls of yarn! But I made it.  Whew!  The Hardangervidda is done.  After several false starts on the Red Scarf Project scarf, I gave up and decided to listen to you and get Dan’s sweater done.  Glad I did. All you get is sneak peeks today.   I’ll post a picture of Dan wearing it tomorrow.  It’s upstairs blocking but I took a few pictures of putting it together.  The finishing took me all day.

The zipper was the hardest part but once I got it in there right, I was pleased with the finished result.

Once I sewed the sleeves in I had to go back and sew the facings down that  were knit into the top of each sleeve. The facings do a beautiful

job of hiding that mess from the cut edges.

I also took a close-up to show the puckering that I was trying to show in the Hans.  You can see in the picture to the right how puckery my stitches are in the back.   This will all come out in blocking.

I cannot wait for the pictures of Dan in his sweater!
Any tips that you want to share about zipper placement–I have a sweater in mind that needs a zipper but I have never done one before.
Another question-do you put a lining in your sweaters to prevent getting your fingers caught in the floats? I am trying to decide what to do about the floats in my sleeves as I can see myself getting a finger/ring stuck in them. Is this just knitter anxiety that I need to get over?

Dan’s sweater is fabulous, I can’t wait to see him modeling it! I am halfway thru my red scarf, but believe it or not, my thumbs are killing me…LOL. How weird is that?? Anyhoo…….knitting is slow right now.

Such a tease – letting us see little bits of the sweater and not it’s whole glory. Shame on you! Looks like it will be nice though – I guess I can wait.

Oh boy! I can’t wait to see this one too. You are so talented! I am going to be doing my first zipper pretty soon and I am so nervous about it!

Oh, so tantalizing, Jean! I too can’t wait to see the completed sweater. The men in your family are very lucky. I’ll bet they know it too! Now, can you slow down a little so you don’t make the rest of us look so bad?

Being a new knitter I have this fear that I am going to run out of yarn, so my last project I bought two balls too many. But if I don’t use them I can always return them!
